The shape

This shape keeps entering the same public contest season after season, playing to win and to get better, and does not want a final round. The price is that the losses are public as well, and staying in means taking them in front of the same people year after year.

Stanley Matthews (1915 to 2000)

Stanley Matthews played his first match for Stoke City in March 1932 and his last First Division match on 6 February 1965, five days after turning fifty. At forty-eight he was named Footballer of the Year for the second time, fifteen years after the first. Thirty-three years of league football, scored in public week after week, show the shape from outside.
