Umm Kulthum (about 1904 to 1975)
Umm Kulthum sang on the first broadcast of Egyptian radio in 1934, and from 1937 her concert on the first Thursday of each month was broadcast live for almost forty years. The concerts were known for emptying the streets of large cities as people hurried home to listen. One night a month, kept for decades for listeners who planned their evenings around it, shows the shape from outside.

Nadia Boulanger (1887 to 1979)
From 1904 until shortly before her death in 1979, apart from the war years she spent in the United States, Nadia Boulanger taught in her family's apartment at 36 rue Ballu in Paris, where she also held a Wednesday afternoon class. Her pupils over those decades included Aaron Copland, Astor Piazzolla, Quincy Jones and Philip Glass. One room, kept open for teaching for about seventy years to the students who came to it, shows the shape from outside.
